The Centre

The Anglican Centre in Rome is a vital presence in the heart of the Eternal City, located on the seventh floor of the historic Palazzo Doria Pamphilj, just steps from the Pantheon. With its library, chapel, and spaces for study and rest, the Centre is open to visitors Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

Since its founding in the wake of the Second Vatican Council, the Centre has been one of the Anglican Communion’s principal instruments of dialogue with the Roman Catholic Church. This modern ecumenical engagement began with the landmark visit of Archbishop Michael Ramsey to Pope Paul VI on 23–24 March 1966, a meeting that symbolized a new chapter of reconciliation and cooperation between our churches.

Today, under the leadership of Bishop Anthony Ball, the Centre continues to embody that vision. As the Archbishop of Canterbury’s Representative to the Holy See, Bishop Ball leads a ministry rooted in diplomatic presence, theological education, and generous hospitality. The Centre welcomes all who seek deeper understanding, mutual prayer, and shared witness in the spirit of unity for which Christ prayed.

The Chapel of St Augustine hosts Morning Prayer regularly at 9.15 am on weekdays (Monday to Friday).

The Eucharist is celebrated for pilgrims, visitors, and a regular congregation every Tuesday at 12:45, followed by lunch in the salone. If you need instructions for finding the ACR, please visit the following page on their website.

Worship
